The Spaniel is listed among the top five favourite dog breeds in the UK and so it is no wonder I have been asked to paint so many of them. All animals are a pleasure to capture but the spaniel is a special case ~ great attention must be paid to those soulful eyes, the way the light falls on the ringlets of fur around their ears and the many freckles about their face and bodies. All you have to do if you wish to commission me is to email me a clear photograph of your spaniel ~ please contact me to discuss all your portrait needs and I will be delighted to help you.
As animal lovers we have all experienced the anguish of losing a much loved pet and the emptiness they leave in our lives once they are gone. I am frequently approached by customers seeking a portrait of their special companion after it has passed away and it is an honour to be able to help bring back a little of the essence of that unique animal in my artwork.
Sometimes, however, the only photographs owners have of their dog, horse or cat are out of focus and dim and it is therefore almost impossible to do the portrait the justice it deserves. No one wants to think about losing a pet but it is so important to take high quality photos of them while they are alive. A detailed portrait makes a timeless gift for yourself or a friend when the inevitable happens, a ‘freeze frame’ of an unforgettable character.
I am an artist living near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire. I specialise in dog portraiture and work from clear photographs which the customer emails to me. I give 110% to every single commission and love doing my job, but if you are considering commissioning me, please do bear in mind that I always have a waiting list of at least four months.
To get the best results from your portraits, it is essential that you remember that the finished artwork will look like your chosen photograph. So size of the photo is also important, please provide a clear, good quality photo which allows me to see the eyes in particular
I studied locally at Hereford College of Art & Design before going on to obtain a degree in Three Dimensional Design at Loughborough College of Art in 1985. Since graduating I have worked in various creative fields, including designing packaging for health food products, managing and putting together ranges of greetings cards for The Paper House Group as well as designing cards of my own and creating and painting designs for ranges of children’s furniture.
The enjoyment of painting animals has been a constant thread thoughout the years of my life, and I am delighted to have finally found my niche devoting my time to pet portraiture. In between producing commissioned work and running a happy family home, I am currently exploring surrealism by placing animals amongst topiary in formal garden settings ~ I guess this is because ‘Alice In Wonderland’ is one of my favourite childhood stories!
